2020 started well with our Artistic Director (Kevin Tomlinson) returning from performing in Hong Kong to direct MEASURE FOR MEASURE at the Drama Studio London and then Evan Placey’s GIRLS LIKE THAT at the Oxford Pegasus Theatre (assisted by Abi Hood, our Associate Director).
However, Covid-19 then raised it’s ugly head and our summer tour of the UK was postponed to 2021, as was our month’s run in London. Meanwhile, various directing projects have been put on hold, as have several acting projects Abi was lined up to do.
But every cloud has a silver lining and this “freeing up” of our calendar has led us to use the time constructively; engaging in various other creative activities: devising, writing, making masks (see above photo) and performing in several shows online over Zoom.
Most recently, Kevin appeared in Bard City’s online production of RICHARD II (directed by RSC director Owen Horsley) and soon Abi and Kevin are to appear in A MDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM, also with Bard City. Alongside these prodcutions, Kevin and Abi have also performed in Bard City’s online Sonnets Season. So all in all, it’s still proving a productive period, albeit different from what was planned!
One other peice of good news: the Arts Council funding we secured in 2019 has been guaranteed, even though our projects have been postponed. Meaning we can still plan with some sense of security. Things aren’t ideal, but we’re determined to swim and not sink in 2020 and beyond, despite the Covid disruption. We look forward to hopefully seeing you at one of our live shows in late 2020 or 2021 all being well. Bye for now! Stay safe and as we always say “it’s good to wear a mask!”
